2021 Projects is a temporary art space that aims to increase awareness for, appreciation of, and involvement in, the visual arts in Memphis and the surrounding region. As part of The Downtown Memphis Commission's Open on Main initiative, 2021 Projects will present and promote the work of a selected group of local artists currently not represented by a gallery to exhibit previous, current, or a site-specific temporary project.

All government safety ordinances and protocols pertaining to COVID-19 and operating a gallery space will be in place and strictly enforced to ensure the safety of the artists, and the general public.

Exhibitions

Four curated exhibits showcasing the work of two artists at a time will take place every month starting in January through the end of June 2021. Either individually or as a team, artist will mount a self-contained show in the gallery space. Please see attached bios of the eight artists that have committed to collaborating with this initiative.

Additionally, during their exhibit, the artists will offer a talk about their work, which will be live-streamed via social media. Together, the exhibits and the talks will offer the public a snapshot of the region’s most compelling contemporary and ultimately will serve to illustrate the value of contemporary art – specifically, what it is and why it matters in our daily lives. Attached is a calendar of programming.
